The Future of Solar Pool Heating is Here – Introducing the SunVolt Heatpump

Heating your pool is an important addition for most pool owners and living in Melbourne makes it almost a mandatory inclusion. Heat pumps are fast becoming the pool heating method of choice rapidly replacing traditional solar pool heating systems. However, the cost of running pool heating in Melbourne can be anywhere from $500 – $1,500 each year for a heat pump without the use of rooftop solar PV panels.
My Pool Shop Melbourne loves the SunVolt Heat Pump as it is a hybrid AC/DC Heat Pump powered directly by its own solar panels but can also operate on the household grid electricity as a backup.
Why is this different from running off existing rooftop solar PV?
The SunVolt comes with its own dedicated PV panels that connect to the Heat Pump powering it directly from the energy provided by its panels.
Unlike regular PV panels, there is no inverter required, no energy provider involved, and no connection to the grid, PLUS you get more efficient use of the sun via a DC current. If you already have solar panels on your roof, this leaves them to do the rest of your house such as water heating, air conditioning, battery storage, and EV car charging instead of being used to heat your pool.

Pool Heating with SunVolt: How it works.
Once installed by our team or your electrician, simply set your desired temperature on the control panel or the mobile app and, from sun up to sun down when there is solar production, the system starts heating at the capacity of the power generated.
Being a DC (Direct Current) means that overall efficiency is up to 30% better. Unlike typical solar systems that use an inverter to change sunlight into the type of power appliances at home use (AC), which usually results in some energy loss, the SunVolt is different!
The SunVolt directly uses the sunlight’s power without needing a conversion, making it more efficient when powering the heat pump. You can also add an AC/DC Pool Pump to your system and run both the pool pump and heater from your panels all in one place. This means zero running costs.

Additional benefits to heating your pool with SunVolt.
You don’t need to install the PV panels on your roof!
If you’ve run out of room on your roof or have a shed, patio, gazebo, or an alternative structure nearby that gets full sun for the majority of the day, you can install them there.
Runs independently.
By operating independently from the home’s existing PV panels (if you have them), this system does not count towards your existing grid connection limit. This means no permission is required from your energy provider to increase the overall PV generation capacity of your house.
Connects to backup power.
You can run The SunVolt with adjustable AC grid power backup, this allows you to heat the pool and still control your costs when the sun isn’t available.
Government rebates.
Gov’t rebates can cover the cost of the solar panels required, with the heat pump & installation costs being paid off by the massive reduction in operating power costs of a traditional heat pump which are approx. $500 – $1,500 / year to run without PV panels.
Easy to control.
Control your heat pump from the Solar ACDC app or intuitive control panel on the unit.
Go off-grid.
Ideal for those who are already off-grid in a remote area or looking to go off the grid and still enjoy the comfort of an efficiently heated pool!
We appreciate the SunVolt heat pump system won’t suit all circumstances however it’s well worth checking out if you are considering a new heating system for your pool.
