Seeing Eye Dog Gomer

Our service tech Brooke will be adopting a Seeing Eye Dog in training!

Seeing Eye Dogs are trained to enhance the mobility and independence of people who are blind or have low vision. Seeing Eye Dogs, a division of Vision Australia, is the only national breeder, trainer and provider of dog guides. They are always in need of carers to raise puppies from 8 weeks to around 12 months of age.

As a volunteer carer, Brooke will raise Gomer for the next 12 months under the guidance of a Puppy Development Trainer.

As part of his training, Brooke will socialise Gomer and teach him to sit, walk nicely on a lead & toileting amongst other things.

Seeing Eye Dogs also need to become very comfortable travelling in all different forms of transport, especially cars and as part of his socialisation Gomer will need to accompany Brooke at work.

It is important to note that these dogs are working and should not be distracted when they are wearing their puppy coat, otherwise they get excited and want to interact with everyone all the time. This can be tricky as he is super cute and adorable but the good news is when Gomer has his puppy coat off we can interact with him as part of his socialisation training.

We are excited for both of them and want to do all we can to help Gomer on his journey and we hope that you feel the same. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any concerns with Gomer accompanying Brooke if she attends to service your pool.
