Neptune Heat Pump Installation: For Comfortable Swimming in Melbourne from September until April

The Client’s Heating Needs
Our client wanted to maintain a consistent water temperature for swimming from September through to April. To achieve this, we recommended a Heat Pump as the best solution. Unlike gas heaters, which can provide heat on short notice but are expensive for prolonged use, heat pumps are designed to run consistently and maintain the desired temperature efficiently. (For a deeper comparison of pool heating options, check out our article: Heat Pump vs. Gas vs. Solar.)
Assessing the Pool’s Requirements
To ensure the best performance, we began by measuring the pool’s dimensions to determine the most accurate water volume. We then ran the numbers through our heat pump calculator to determine the ideal heating capacity.
Our Recommended Solution
Based on the pool’s size and the client’s heating requirements, we recommended installing a Neptune 32kW Heat Pump, along with a controller and a Daisy Pool Blanket. This combination would provide optimal heating efficiency while minimizing energy costs.

Choosing the Right Heat Pump Design
We opted for a top discharge unit to ensure that the cold exhaust air is directed upwards, preventing it from affecting the nearby pathway and trees. This setup helps maintain an efficient and unobtrusive heating system.

Integrating with the Existing Filtration System
In this installation, the heat pump is driven by the existing filtration pump, eliminating the need for a second dedicated pump. The client recently installed a Viron P320 variable speed pump, which is designed to run at lower speeds to conserve energy. Since heat pumps do not require high water flow rates, this setup is a perfect energy-efficient pairing. The integration ensures minimal power consumption by avoiding the redundancy of running an additional pump.
Smart Control and Monitoring
The Neptune Heat Pump features Wi-Fi control via a mobile app, allowing the client to easily monitor and adjust the water temperature and set operating hours remotely.
Additionally, the control box allows the heat pump to operate in sync with the filtration pump during its scheduled filtration cycles. It also provides the flexibility to run the heat pump outside of filtration hours without activating the saltwater chlorinator. This is particularly important when using a Daisy Pool Blanket, as excessive chlorination can occur if the system is running extended heating hours without proper control.

Overview
By selecting the Neptune 32kW Heat Pump and integrating it seamlessly with the existing pool equipment, we were able to provide our client with an energy-efficient, cost-effective, and easy-to-control heating solution. Now, they can enjoy perfectly warmed water throughout the swimming season without excessive energy costs or maintenance concerns.
