Expert Pool Upgrades: Going Above and Beyond

Zeke and Lachlan, our skilled technicians, recently dedicated a full day to enhancing a new pool owner’s setup—installing a fresh gas heater, performing a complete media change, and replacing three pool lights

The gas heater replacement was tricky as the vented exhaust was near a window, so the location and orientation had to be changed to fit current safety codes and the requirements for the new heater. The guys also noticed that the old heater wasn’t plumbed with the correct thicker and heat-resistant piping required for gas heaters, so they cut out more of the original system than was originally thought would be needed to use the correct piping.

Lachlan replaced the two easy lights, which meant that Zeke got stuck with replacing the light at the bottom of the spa, out of reach (unless he wanted to jump in for a dip). Instead, the guys drained the spa using a pool hose and vacuum head as well as the pool pump to pump the water out of the spa and back into the pool. It was an uncomfortable job, but Zeke was happy to at least not get soaked!

The new pool owner was really happy with all of the work the guys did, with Lachlan sticking around longer to show her how the new equipment worked and how best to care for her pool.

Safety First: Professional Installation

When our team arrived, they immediately identified safety concerns with the existing gas heater setup. The exhaust’s proximity to a window didn’t meet current standards, requiring careful repositioning. Additionally, the previous installer had used standard PVC piping instead of required heat-resistant materials – a potential hazard our team properly addressed by replacing more plumbing than initially planned.

Tackling Challenges Efficiently

The spa light presented a unique obstacle, located at the bottom of the deep section. Rather than taking shortcuts, our team efficiently drained the spa using vacuum heads and the existing pump system, redirecting water back into the main pool to create a safe working environment.

Customer Education

After completing the technical work, Lachlan spent extra time educating the new pool owner on operating her upgraded equipment. He demonstrated proper settings, explained the improved filtration system, and provided guidance on maintenance to maximise equipment lifespan and minimise operating costs.
