Our Energy-Saving Pool Pump Installation

This month we want to show off a creative solution to limitations and challenges faced in installing a new pump for one of our customers.

Our client needed to purchase a new pump and opted for the Viron P320XT energy saving pump. Lachlan noticed the pump was sitting right up against the filter and also the back wall of the area. This was reducing airflow to the cooling fan at the back. The positioning would cause challenges installing the new pump and the inlet valve would also need to be replaced as it was sucking air causing priming issues and due to its location flush with the pump inlet barrel union, meant it couldn’t be salvaged.

After discussion with the customer about their needs, they agreed that their best option was to purchase a new Energy Saving, Variable Speed Pump because of the cost savings obtained. Variable speed pumps save money by running at a lower speed when full power is not needed, principally during normal filtration, drawing less power and saving on power bills. It can run at higher power when required for backwashing and also in this situation for use driving the spa when needed.

Zeke attended the pump installation, ready to face the challenges Lachlan had identified and managed to fit the new and larger pump by using 45degree elbows to shift the dual inlets so the new pump sat away from the filter and the rear wall.

Note that Zeke left some space between the valve and the pump inlet barrel union, making any future pump replacements easier and not requiring a valve replacement at the same time. Good future planning Zeke!
