Having a small stock of pool chemicals at home is always a good idea. You don’t need one of everything. However, a few of the essentials will ensure that if you ever need to top up or if there is a little bit of green creeping in, you’ll be ready!

If you keep your eye on your water balance each month, maintaining a balanced pool all year round is much easier and, will cost you much less than a green pool treatment if something does go wrong.

Here are our top 5 things to keep stocked up on at home.

Test kit & reagents

Keep your Chlorine, pH, and Total Alkalinity in check on a regular basis, weekly tests in summer and testing every few weeks in winter. With a stocked test kit or packet of test strips. You can make sure the water chemistry is in balance even when you can’t get in-store.

We suggest having at least 2kg of either Stabalised or 5 in 1 chlorine on hand. It is easier & safer to use than liquid chlorine as well as lasting much longer if kept dry.

Hydrochloric Acid

A 5l of Hydrochloric Acid will usually last around 4-6 weeks for an average-sized pool, using a few hundred milliliters every few weeks, can ensure your Chlorine works effectively.

Alkalinity Increaser

2kg of Alkalinity Increaser or pH buffer will generally be almost all used in one go. However, depending on the weather conditions you may be able to use in small amounts to control your Alkalinity, which in turn stabilises your pH.

Salt & Minerals

Having a few extra bags on hand (ideally 2 – 4) will keep your chlorinator working efficiently, especially with poor weather, fresh water from rain or added from the hose will reduce the amount of salt & minerals in your water.

Using an algaecide regularly is the easiest & most effective way to stop algae from starting in your pool. Our highly trained staff will be able to help you find the right algaecide for you and let you know how much and how often to add.

A few hundred grams of an Oxidiser used every few months will burn out any additional organic material in the water to help maintain a healthy and safe pool.
